Love of Ledger Art – History in Pictures

Sherman Chaddlesone (Kiowa), George Levi (So. Cheyenne), Dolores Purdy Corcoran (Caddo) and Dwayne Wilcox (Oglala Sioux) are the four featured artists in the 2011 Love of Ledger Art show.  Four different interpretations from four Tribal backgrounds are represented.  The evening will allow dialogue on the artists works as well as the historical significance of ledger art.  This will be the 4th  ledger show held by Tribes Gallery.  Opening Reception with artists: Friday, Feb. 18th  7 – 10 p.m.  the show will continue thru March 18th.  The entire show will be available online the week of Feb. 20th @  www.tribes131.com   For more information contact the gallery via email: tribes131@cox.net  or by phone 405.329.4442   The images below represent works by each artist.   The image by Sherman Chaddlesone, is  “ledger style”  being created on a fine paper.  The artists who are creating on ledger paper are using original historical paper, not copies or duplicates…many from the early 1800’s.  The Music Sheet in the image by George Levi is from a Hymnal from 1932.  There will be a few historical pieces from private collections at this show for viewing.
